Some of them really hit home and truly touched my heart. Before I share the winner, I would like to share with you my most rewarding aspect of teaching. I love to know that my job is making a difference. We are responsible for educating the next generation. We are making a difference in children’s lives. Many of my students just want someone to listen to them and care about them. I know some of you work in lower income schools like myself and these kiddo’s stories just break your heart.

Thursday, October 24, I’ve been getting tons of questions about literacy centers lately, so I thought it would be a good idea to share with you all what we do! First of all, our students are half day, so we only get to teach them for about 3 hours a day! Fitting it all in is tough, but we sure do get a lot done! We do literacy centers for the first 30 minutes of the day.
That was a LONG post, I hope that I have given you some new Literacy Center ideas or clarification, I really enjoy literacy centers in my classroom. My kiddos are engaged during center time and I have seen a lot of growth from using these centers.
If you are interested in a strategy that may successfully encourage students to be responsible, responsive, and proactive, the CHAMPs classroom management system is certainly worth trying. However, if you have glaring needs to address, please let me know about them. Whether you are at the beginning of the school year or not, have a very successful and fruitful one. And, as always, best wishes to you and your kids.
Return to Top of Page I always believe in giving credit where credit is due. Randy Sprick of Safe and Civil Schools. Over the course of the last few years, several of our colleagues have requested a collection of CHAMPs classroom management signs. I thank each of you for, at last, putting me to the task.
In particular, I thank Naomi Foote, one of our fellow elementary teachers, who was kind enough to share the seed ideas for this endeavor along with several clip art images from Santa Maria Elementary School. Finally, the classroom clip art of Phillip Martin at ppst. All of the images that he created in this collection are duly cited at the bottom of each sign upon which they appear.
Again, my sincerest thanks to all of you. Comments Have your say about what you just read! Leave me a comment in the box below.

Preschool Learning Centers Early Childhood Center Preschool learning centers are child friendly spaces where kids can explore, learn, create and relax. Optimize the space in your classroom to create a smooth flow from one center to the next. Always keep in mind the needs of the children and your own. Setting Up Preschool Learning Centers Labels Each center needs to be marked with a picture and should have it’s own defined space. You can also show the number of children that are allowed in each center.
Pictures Use a picture to remind the children of the way the center looks like when it is clean. It is a great way to teach children to be responsible and autonomous. Furniture The furniture in the classroom should be comfortable and fit the size of the children. Number of Children Many teachers like to limit the number of children at each center. I do not agree with this approach.
In my opinion children should be able to make their own choices and play at any center they like for as long as they like to. That being said I do encourage them to try new things and play with other children. Compulsory means they need to come to this center and free means they can choose to go to this center. It allows the children to see clearly which centers are open and closed and the number of children in each center.
Come see my favorite new center on the blog HERE. Post Office The post office boxes are stackable trays from the Dollar Tree. I put each child’s name on both sides. Mail is delivered inside the post office. It is picked up outside the post office.

You should definitely take into consideration the ages and attention spans of the children in your care. It is also important to consider the length of your day. Half-day preschool program schedules may have a very different look and feel than a full day preschool. If you share a playground with other preschool classrooms, it will be necessary to meet with other teachers and decide which classrooms will use the outdoor space at which times. If your school takes advantage of special visiting programs such as gymnastics, dance or music lessons, be sure to add these to your daily schedule as well.
Use the attached free printable preschool daily schedule as a guide to creating your own schedule that works well for your class.

Sunday, April 17, Literacy Centers Since I just started my blog, I want to go back and put up some ideas for things that I used at the beginning of the year that I found too be really effective. I used literacy centers at the beginning of the year while I held guided reading groups, and the kids LOVED the centers! The numbers at the top of the chart represent the table numbers in the room.
Those numbers rotate daily. Each table has 3 center options for the day those centers are listed below the table number. No more than two students can be at one center at a time.
